To Catch A Predator Update: Bowling Green

Image
Richard Mark Watwood was never able to make bail on the charges he faced in October 2007 and remained in jail. He was convicted of federal charges and state charges, as he was from Tennessee. He was sentenced to 46 months in federal prison and 7 years in a Kentucky State Penitentiary. In 2010, he lost a lawsuit against the FBP. He was released in 2019, and he will spend 5 years on probation and register as a sex offender for the rest of his life. Whether he made it to the bathroom is unknown. Dustin McPhetridge was found in possession of child pornography when his home was searched. He was sentenced to 5 years in federal prison for the solicitation charges, entirely not enough for a man who crossed state lines to have a threesome with a girl and her 8-year-old sister. 2 years later, he received 8 years for the child porn charges, making his sentence 10 years by default. He was released in 2015. In 2020, he was rearrested for failure to make progress in his sex offender counselin...

To Catch A Predator Update: Central Georgia

Image
Jeffrey Pansino is the textbook definition of a sexual predator. He chatted with a decoy in Fortson, but didn't show up at that sting. He did show up in Twiggs County, Georgia, however, and earned himself 5 years in prison, 25 years probation, and lifetime RSO status. He lives in South Carolina.       Martin McAllister hit up the decoy and, after his arrest, was revealed to have molested 2 children. He received 30 years in prison, and he will not be eligible for release until 2027.       Jeffrey Ray Rutledge had previously served time for federal sex charges, hit up a decoy in Fortson, and tried to escape from a mental institution. Despite this and the fact that he was charged with 17 felonies and misdemeanors, he received only 10 years in prison and 15 years probation. He was released early and arrested in November 2017 for probation violation. He has since been re-released and lives in Canton, Georgia.     ...

Sex Offender Registries In Some States Pitifully Weak

Image
I believe non-public sex offender registries have only one benefit: they assist law enforcement in keeping tabs on sexual fiends. However, the state of New Jersey, one of several that has such a registry, is costing itself the primary benefit of these systems. They are not designed for public humiliation, but public safety. In a matter of seconds, neighborhood parents can know who to keep their children away from without relying on the good will of felons or waiting until it is too late and a child has been exposed to danger. All sex offender registries must be public. New York, meanwhile, only lists some offenders, the worst of the worst. Someone who gropes a cocktail waitress would not be visible to the public, but a repeat child molestor would. No matter how severe the offense, the public deserves to know. In other states, like Ohio, Michigan, and Wisconsin, sex offender registry can expire after 10-25 years. People who commit sex offenses, as of now, cannot be rehabi...

To Catch A Predator Update: Northern Kentucky

Image
James Rauch was the teacher from Ohio who received 46 months in federal prison and lifetime RSO status and probation. He was released in February 2011 after serving his full sentence, and he currently lives in Cincinatti.       David Quist was the only Kentucky predator who took his case to trial and paid a hefty price. He got 10 years in the state penitentiary, 5 years of supervised release, and lifetime registration as a sex offender. He was likely released between 2015 and 2018, and he msut remain on probation until his 5 years is up and register as a sex offender for life. He lives in Kent, Ohio.       Michael Meyers found a new way to hurt teens when he showed up to rape one. Despite his pathetic pleas, he received 5 years in state prison, 5 years probation, and 20 years RSO status. His RSO status lasts until 2033, but I have been unable to find his page. He might have a chance at leading a normal life when he ...

David Kaye's Whole Life, Basically

Image
David Kaye , caught in the second "To Catch A Predator" and the first that exposed the full identities of the predators, remains among the most notorious figures caught in the show's history.       Kaye was born on October 25th, 1950. He worked as a rabbi at Congregation Har Shalom in Potomac, Maryland, from 1985 to 2001. He briefly worked as a rabbi at Congregation Agudas Achim in San Antonio, Texas, that year before becoming a vice president of programming for Panim: The Institute for Jewish Leadership and Values in Rockville, Maryland. He became somewhat of a local celebrity, working with thousands of Jewish high school students on religious and political issues. He would also famously be photographed with two other figures convicted of sex offenses.      On August 7th, 2005, at 3:50 A.M., 54-year-old Kaye, using the screen name "REDBD," made contact with someone he believed to be a 13-year-old boy named Conrad. His screen name c...

Gator-Hunting Cop Predator Fired 13 Years Later

Image
Anthony L. Phillips was one of only three predators of the 21 busted in Flagler Beach-- the others being Samuel Harrison and Stephen Holt -- to never make air, and he also stood out among the other men for a number of reasons.      Phillips was born in Louisville, Kentucky, on September 24th, 1985. He graduated high school there in 2003 and then began attending the University of Florida at Gainesville. During the time of his arrest, he was a junior, and he expressed his desire to major in political science and join the CIA. He lived in a condominium with his girlfriend and worked at a local restaurant to support himself.      On December 9th, 2006, he began chatting with a decoy he believed to be a 14-year-old female named Kimmie. His sporadic, seven-hour chat was incredibly cautious. Using the screen name "g8rman21," a reference to his affinity for alligator hunting, he explained that he was studying for exams that night, but that, w...

Know The Signs Of Sexual Abuse

Image
" Early, Open, Often " is a website dedicated entirely to teaching the signs of sexual abuse and opening a conversation. It is imperative that adults know these signs. Children do not have the language ability or the emotional development necessary to talk about how they broke a vase in the living room, nonetheless about an atrocity they have been subjected to. As such, parents have a responsibility to keep a watchful eye on the ones they love. Some of the signs of sexual abuse are below:      Sudden fear of certain people and places      Behavioral changes      Self-harm and delinquency      Changes in academic performance      Premature or unusual ideation of sexual activity      Changes in eating and sleeping patterns      Bedwetting or increased bedwetting      Blood or discharge near the genitals or rectum      Anxiety and depres...

To Catch A Predator Update: Ocean County, Part Two

Image
Selwyn Knights received lifetime parole and lifetime registration as a sex offender. He currently lives in Lawrence Township, New Jersey, and lists himself as "principal" of "Dream Elements, Inc." I have no fucking idea what that means, but I'm a little worried for the integrity of his parole. He takes pride in his MyLife page, which can be found here .       Justo Ezzio Benavides received lifetime parole and lifetime registration as a sex offender. He still lives in Kearny, New Jersey, but likely works in Pennsylvania as he is a publicly-registered sex offender there.        William Hare was a camp counselor and lifeguard who worked extensively with children in both roles. He was told to stop talking to the decoy by other people in the same chat room, and he alleged that he knew a girl who was cut up and murdered by an online predator and that he had a girlfriend who drowned her baby in the toilet. Despite a...

Peewee Herman: REGISTERED SEX OFFENDER

Image
Paul Reubens, aka "Peewee Herman," I honestly don't know quite what to make of. Pedophile? He claims not. Pervert and registered sex offender who doesn't belong as a children's icon? Absolutely. Reubens certainly started young: he was arrested at 17 for prowling near an adult theater and ultimately convicted of misdemeanor marijuana and loitering charges that carried a small fine.      In 1991 and again in 2002, he found himself in more serious trouble. In the former case, he was arrested for masturbating in an adult theater. In the latter, he was arrested on child porn charges that he tried to claim were simply a case of officers mistaking his erotic art images for children. As a celebrity, he was able to plead down to aggravated misdemeanors in both cases.      However, as a result, he was banned from unsupervised contact with children and his public image and business career took hits they should never have recovered from. While they ...

Half Dozen Predators Nabbed In Upper Michigan Sting

Image
The Genesee Human Oppression Strike Team (GHOST), led by increasingly-renowned Sheriff Chris Swanson, together with the Upper Michigan Human Trafficking Task Force and numerous local law enforcement agencies in the Marquette and Menominee areas, organized a sting operation targeting men who solicited sex online from children between the ages of 13 and 15.      One Northern Wisconsin man, who is now subject to federal charges for crossing state lines, and five Michigan men were busted in a few days, and, if convicted, face up to 51 years in prison with lifetime sex offender registration. The arrests are as follows: 1. Robert Jay Miller , 42, of Negaunee. 2. Ameire Rackem Stevens , 48, of Skandia. 3. Alan Brian Schwalbach , 64, of Vulcan. 4. Keith David Johnson , 50, of Au Train. 5. Chad Michael Anderson , 32, of Gwinn. 6. Jeremy Bertrand , 33, of Pound, Wisconsin.

Sturgis Bikers Sentenced To Prison For Child Solicitation

Image
A Rapid City man was sentenced to 15 years in federal prison followed by five years probation and lifetime registration as a sex offender; he will not be eligible for release until 2034, as federal prisoners are required to serve a minimum of 85 percent of their sentences. Jonathan Andrew Whitney was busted in 2019 by federal authorities conducting a sting to coincide with the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. He thought he was soliciting a 15-year-old girl, but was instead greeted by agents.       Carlocito Slim , an Arizona man busted in the 2017 Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, was convicted of two federal offenses: attempted sex trafficking of a minor and enticing a child. He thought he was speaking with a pimp and arranging to pay for sex with a fictional 15-year-old prostitute, but was, once again, speaking to federal agents. Because he came from much further than Whitney and attempted to solicit the decoy via a prostitute (hence the human trafficking charge), ...
