Stings In Four States Net Nearly 100 Child Predators In A Month
In just two days, July 28th and July 29th, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department teamed up with the FBI and the Southern Nevada Human Trafficking Task Force to arrest 15 child predators in yet another sting, dubbed "Operation Dark Knight." Stings have occurred almost monthly in Vegas since last autumn, leading to nearly 200 arrests of men trying to solicit young teens online for sex. The men arrested this time ranged in age from 28 to 64, and they have each been charged with luring a child for sex, which could put them in prison anywhere from 10 years to life.
In Florida, yet again, more weirdos showed up for sex with children. In "Operation Child Protector," 17 men ranging in age from 26 to 47 were arrested for soliciting children online for sex. The men AND WOMEN thought they were speaking with 13- and 14-year-old girls and boys over a span of six days, but were actually speaking with sheriff's detectives. Three were Disney employees in Orlando, and among those arrested were nine men with criminal histories and a couple who wanted to engage in sex with a child. Some brought condoms, some sent pictures of themselves naked or pornography, and all were charged with two or three felonies plus additional misdemeanors. If convicted, these predators could face up to 16 years in prison each.
At the same time, over the course of a week, 20 men in Mahoning County, Ohio, were arrested for soliciting children online for sex. They were among 34 who were arrested in a sweeping human trafficking investigation in Northeast Ohio (the others were arrested for soliciting prostitution, viewing child porn, or probation violation offenses). These men face up to 18 months in prison.
Finally, in New Jersey, 31 men were arrested in "Operation 24/7," which included the arrests of two men for trying to meet children online for sex in Trenton, New Jersey, two men for manufacturing child sexual abuse material, and 27 men for possessing or distributing child sexual abuse material. If they are convicted, they face 10 to 20 years in prison.
97 men and women were arrested for sex crimes between mid-July and mid-August 2021, and they now face sentences ranging from a year to life in prison as well as the near certainty of being registered as sex offenders for life. Needless to say, our streets are much safer.
