To Catch A Predator Update: Fairfield
Joshua Colon chatted up a 12-year-old girl for sex and admitted that he had previously raped a 15-year-old boy. Despite this, he was convicted of only 3 felonies and sentenced to 3 years in prison with 5 years probation and 10 years RSO status. He was released in May 2019 after serving all 3 years and will remain on probation until 2024 and remain an RSO until 2029.
Stephen Buchanan was a military vet who blamed PTSD and had his family rally around him. He was caught trying to have a threesome with 2 tweens and, after trying to lure a girl to his car, was found in possession of a kill kit in his trunk. He was sentenced to 3 years in prison and released in January 2019. He will be on probation until 2024 and the sex offender registry until 2029.
Michael Gentile was 64 when he was busted in 2015. The last man convicted, in 2017, he was sentenced to 4.5 years in prison because he had child pornography on his computer. He was released in January 2021, and he will remain on probation and the sex offender registry until 2031, if he lives that long.
Although only 19, Vincent Ambrosio was equally disturbing. He tried to meet 2 different decoys, and he also had child porn on his phone. His interview was not featured on the show and was only released in 2020, where he gained notoriety for his sympathy-seeking crying. He was sentenced to 2.5 years in prison and released in 2018. He will be on probation until 2023 and an RSO until 2028.
Jesse Velez was possibly the most interesting man caught in the sting. The year prior, he had been robbed twice in the same night at his store in Bridgeport, the festering crime stench pit of Connecticut. He went bankrupt and started managing a sandwich shop. He was arrested in 2015 and convicted in 2016. He received a sentence of 2 years in prison followed by 6 years probation and 10 years registration as a sex offender. He was arrested in 2019 for probation violation and faces extra time in prison as well as an extension of his supervision. He posted an apology on Facebook that read as defending his actions, and in it he revealed that he was still with his boyfriend, although they were no longer engaged.
Unlike Velez, John Dupee probably knew he was a monster when he hit up 2 different decoys and brought gifts for one. An unemployred former mail carrier, he was sentenced to 3 years in prison followed by 5 years probation and 10 years sex offender registration, set to expire in 2028. He had a rough time in prison, his mom and brother dying in a crash and he being the subject of constant jeering and cat calling.
Michael Manzi avoided jail and sex offender registration, but he was convicted of endangering a child, a felony, and sentenced to 3 years probation, which ended in 2019. Unbelievably, he is still in the education field, working with parents who want their teens to "blaze" with a bald man in his mid-30s.
David Tiriolo, the first to plead guilty, received the same sentence as Manzi, and his probation was over with in 2018. He is still believed to work as a T-shirt printer in Shelton, Connecticut, and it is still believed that he is medically incapable of having an erection.
Michael Papovich was the military vet who tortured 2 decoys with disgustingly-sexual chat online. He will remain in prison until 2025 and must register as a sex offender for life after his 10 years in prison are up.
Charles Lawrence was a Fairfield resident and a friend of Chris Hansen's. He was sentenced to 2 years in prison and released in June 2018. He will be on probation until 2024 and remain an RSO until 2028. He no longer works in real estate, and he should no longer work as an accountant if he really mistook "13" for "18."
Jeffrey Sokol was the arrogant dickhead who brought a pizza and a marriage contract for a 13-year-old. He was sentenced to 2.5 years in prison, denied release in 2018, and had to wait until June 2019 to get out. He must remain on probation until 2024 and sex offender registration until 2029. In court, he maintained he was doing nothing wrong and blamed society for his conviction.
