Sexual Abuse Counseling Week 9: Find Your Higher Purpose

Not much can be said about finding one's higher purpose, as complicated a subject as it seems. People are born with passions, but these sometimes fade as life intervenes and forces mediocrity and monotony upon unsuspecting people. It really is not healthy: if people are only able to think of themselves, they are more vulnerable to emotions that may lead them astray.

How to know? You'll know. What are you passionate about doing? Who are you passionate about helping? What issue are you passionate about addressing? It doesn't have to be running for Congress or finding the cure for cancer. Even running food drives, cleaning up parks and beaches, or volunteering at an animal shelter provides a sense of purpose that triumphs over virtually all negativity.

If one is able to look beyond themselves, they can demonstrate perfectly that they are in control of their own destiny and that what has happened has no bearing on the lifestyle they lead or the impact they have on others. Start today, not tomorrow or next week.
