To Catch A Predator Update: Flagler Beach, Part Two
If there is a prick who deserved harsher punishment, it was Anthony Phillips. Known for his love of gator hunting, he chatted, showed up, and got convicted on the same day. He pled guilty to 2 misdemeanor counts of child endangerment and received 2 years probation, which ended in 2008. He was later hired as a deputy in Kentucky but fired in 2019 (just 6 months later) after his prior conviction was revealed. He has gone on the news to defend himself and say he can't be bad because he has faith in Jesus.
Some men have avoided punishment by committing other crimes. Chemistry teacher Deepak Bist was convicted and sentenced to 1 year and 9 months in prison. He appealed to the Florida Supreme Court and lost, and absconded to Nepal. He remains wanted to this day.
Mohammad Abdallah fled rather than fight his case. A warrant for his arrest was issued in 2008 and he, like Bist, is wanted. He is believed to be in Egypt.
Yazan Asfour was a former Jordanian basketball player who had been caught by amateur predator hunters in his native country. He wanted to be a human toilet and, allegedly at the advice of his lawyer, fled to Jordan before his trial. He remains wanted to this day.
Safraz Khan showed up at the same time as Asfour, the first double interview in show history. He was sentenced to 1 year and 3 months in prison. In March 2012, he was arrested by ICE and spent the next 4 years and 8 months in prison fighting his case. He was deported to Guyana in November 2016 after a total of nearly 6 years in prison related to the case.
Michael Collins was sentenced to 10 years of probation and lifetime RSO status despite trying to solicit a child to get another child for a threesome. He remains on probation to this day.
Oanh Le was sentenced to 10 years probation and lifetime RSO status. His probation ended in 2019. In 2011, he was featured in the news for lurking near a bus stop, which was clearly predatory but not technically illegal. I recant my earlier statement: Le deserved 6 years in prison and ultimate deportation like Khan got.
Samuel Harrison, on the other hand, got a fitting punishment: 1 year and 1 month (13 months) in prison for trying to have sex with a 13-year-old. He was released in 2008 and remained on probation until 2013, and he must register as a sex offender for life.
Anthony Sorrentino, like Harrison the football player, was a sports enthusiast. He received a year and 5 months for the half hour he spent chatting with and driving to meet a minor. He remained on probation until 2015 and must register as a sex offender for life. He tried to find a job on hireexfelon.com, but it is unknown if he was successful.
Brian Dory received 2 years in prison and remained on probation until 2017. He will be an RSO for life, and, like many Flagler predators, he has a virtual junkyard of vehicles.
Daniel Peter Kelly was sentenced in 2010 to 2 years in prison, and he remained on probation until 2014. He is notable for the fact that he is the only Canadian and sole scientologist caught.
