Not-So-Happy Halloween For Ohio Predators
Ohio is kicking ass and taking names for their sex offender registry when it comes to online predators. The attorney general, David Yost (R), has overseen several sting operations this year.
The first occurred in Jackson Township in February. 14 men, aged 20 to 73, were arrested, among them 38-year-old Jerry Ragsdale, a preschool teacher, and 48-year-old Adam Eric Leidke, a former rape crisis center counselor, 2 very disturbing cases among the lot.
In July, Fremont police arrested 10 men between the ages of 22 and 42 and charged them all with fifth-degree felonies.
That same month, Gallia County arrested 8 men, aged 31 to 48, who were seeking to pay children for sex and thus received additional human trafficking-related charges.
In August, 27 men, aged 21 to 61, were arrested. Nathan Troup, 39, was a registered sex offender who crossed state lines from Pennsylvania, and a member of the Catholic diocese was also caught.
This month, in Jefferson County, 4 men were arrested in less than 48 hours in a sting dubbed "Operation Trick-Or-Treat." Their ages ranged from 31 to 63.
Last September, 104 arrests were made in a massive Ohio sting. 24 were for meeting a minor for sex, 43 were for selling prostitution (those women were referred to social services), 36 men were arrested for soliciting prostitutes, and a man was arrested for promoting prostitution.
This is a problem that Ohio needs to and is willing to solve.
